The right training can lead to a real job. In Traralgon, VIC that’s exactly what happened for 19 locals.
Since January 2026, they’ve started contact centre jobs at Aussie Broadband after completing a five-day course with genU. AKG set up the course with genU and Aussie Broadband, and connected our Workforce Australia participants to it.
It’s one example of how AKG works with local employers and training providers, so job seekers in Traralgon and the Latrobe Valley can get training that leads to real work.
Five days of contact centre training in Traralgon
The course was built and delivered by genU. Over five days, participants learned:
- customer service and professional communication
- how to handle calls and use contact centre systems
- how to manage tricky conversations
- the computer skills used on the job
The course was shaped around what Aussie Broadband wants its new starters to walk in with, so participants finished knowing what the job involves.
Job interviews with Aussie Broadband at our Traralgon office
Once the training was done, the Aussie Broadband team came to our AKG office to interview participants one-on-one for roles they had available.
That meant participants met the people hiring face to face, instead of sending an application and waiting to hear back.
Two kinds of contact centre jobs
The roles are inbound contact centre jobs, with two ways in:
- Customer roles: helping customers with Aussie Broadband products, such as their internet service.
- Tech team roles: working through technical problems with customers and helping fix them.
Support once you start work
Our support doesn’t stop when someone gets the job. As our participants start work, we stay in touch with them to make sure they settle into their roles and to smooth out any hiccups that come up.
We also stay in close contact with Aussie Broadband, so any issues can be picked up and sorted early.
How AKG helps job seekers
At AKG, we team up with local employers and training providers so the training you do is linked to real jobs.
As a Workforce Australia provider, we connect the people we support with training and employers, and we stay with them as they start work. The Aussie Broadband course is one example of what that looks like in regional Victoria.
