Trevor’s Career Transformation Journey
With over two decades of experience in the transport industry, Trevor was looking to transition out of a physically-demanding role to accommodate his back problems.
Trevor enrolled in the combined Recreate Your Career and SEE Programs to identify a possible learning and career journey, and build the skills required to achieve his goals.
Overcoming Challenges
Early on in his enrolment, Trevor advised us that he had difficulty hearing, making it difficult for him to receive instruction and information in a learning setting. Initially lacking computer skills, he required assistance with booking a hearing test as it was online.
Trevor’s trainer set him up for success early on in his learning journey by assisting him with obtaining hearing aids, greatly improving his ability to learn and work in class.
With limited experience working with computers, the Recreate team helped Trevor in this area. As part of his learning journey, Trevor gained computer skills and is now proficient at using Google Drive and navigating the internet.
Developing New Skills
This enabled Trevor to independently research how to become a WHS officer and the courses available to him. Not only that, Trevor enjoyed assisting new learners in his cohort with the computer!
In addition to gaining digital literacy, Trevor is continuing to improve his reading and writing skills to assist with his career goal.
The SEE program provided support for Trevor in his Cert II Business assignments, where he received support specifically in the areas of reading comprehension, identifying key points, sentence construction and cohesion, analysing and interpreting texts, and proofreading.
Trevor’s Perspective
“It helped with everything. My literacy and numeracy have come a long way. I’ve become more confident writing emails and using the computer. I went from 0 to 100 in my ability to do my assessments.” – Trevor
Looking Ahead
We congratulate Trevor on his progress and achievements and look forward to seeing him successfully complete his WHS certificate.
