Single Dad Was Out Of Work For 18 Months. Parent Pathways Helped Him Land His Dream Job.

A smiling father carrying his two young sons on his shoulders outdoors under lush green trees.

A single dad lost his job. He had two kids to raise on his own. Parent Pathways helped him find money, work, and hope — until he landed his dream job.

Losing your job is scary but losing it when you’re the only parent your kids have is a different kind of scary.

One dad in our Parent Pathways program knows this feeling well. He works in pharmacy. But every time he applied for a job, someone else got it first — often an internal hire, or someone with a bit more experience. Rejection after rejection, while trying to fit a job search around school pickups and sick days, with no one else to call.

He was out of work for 18 months.

It Wasn’t For Lack Of Trying

He had the skills. What he couldn’t find was a job that also worked for a parent doing this alone.

In his own words:

“Being a skilled worker, unexpected unemployment caught me off guard. I was stuck in a rut, finding it difficult to come upon a role that suited both my unique skill set and the flexibility needed for my kids.”

His Parent Pathways mentor, Sodaneth, saw it up close too:

“I’m so proud of him because it’s not easy getting rejected time and time again.”

What Parent Pathways Did For Him

We helped him in three simple ways:

  • Paid for his Green Slip (Compulsory Third Party Insurance), so he could stay on the road for work
  • Paid to renew his pharmacy registration, so he could keep applying for roles in his field
  • Kept him going on the days it felt too hard to keep trying

Here’s how he described it:

“Parent Pathways made a genuine difference. They supported me financially when I needed it most, helped me pursue every possible employment opportunity, and kept me motivated even when things felt really bleak.”

Where He Is Now

He’s been in his new job (his dream job!) for over six months.

“I’m in a position where I can build a stable future and support my kids, and I’m incredibly grateful for the role this service played in getting me here.”
